You helmet is on your head, cycling glasses ready, your half-finger biker gloves are well fitting in your hands, and your smartwatch on your wrist.

You might be on a solo journey or in a group of cyclists ready to touch the road. Your destination is Brighton, and you need the route overview for convenience and reliability.

Let us now have a glimpse of the route from station to station, we will explore the characteristics of each route, the features you are expected to encounter and all the precautions that you need to have at the back of your mind as you cycle.

Central London

central-london

As you cycle the first three miles you will notice that the roads are very busy with a lot to see. Here you need to be more cautious. Cycle all the way going past the gates and then to Buckingham Gate. After here, keep going all the way to the grounds of the Royal hospital, you will notice the bus dodging that you would have done on the way. Now cross the Chelsea Bridge by turning left and keep going down the busy Queenstown road.

Clapham Common

At this point, you could have covered three miles from Central London. Now continue straight along the cycle path that crosses the Common. There is a horrid junction at the end. Riders are advised to mount off from their bikes and walk their bikes along the far pavement, pass Clapham South Tube, and turn left after the Sainsbury’s onto Hazelbourne Road.

Streatham Common

Here now you have already gone six miles. From here now, it is only a couple of little residential streets that will take you to the B272 at Streatham Common Station. It is a fairly busy road that is direct and easy to follow, and they will take you 4 miles. This route is more appealing courtesy of the new cycle path that has been installed after you cross A236 at Mitcham Common.

Beddington

10 miles are over now. From here now, turn left in Beddington onto Guy Road that will take you past the church onto the series of residential streets. After here you will come to A237, a wide and busy road. Here you will meet the avenue Verte Cycle Route and you will enter the countryside.

Coulsdon

15 miles are gone now. At this point, there is a climb to get up, that gives you a very beautiful view. This high point fills you with a sigh of relief as you encounter nature's greatness. A wooden lane makes a little winding that takes you through Chaldon and onto an enjoyable descent past M25. A bike with good tires will do well here where you will turn left straight after the motorway at the National Cycle Network.

Bletchingley

It is past 22 miles now. Despite the constant traffic of the A25, Bletchingley has a well-to-do picture of square air that characterizes the best of Surrey. Along its route, there is a couple of village shops, and a boutique tea-room, well known for its magnificent cakes. Here you get two pubs for further refreshments.

East Grinstead

This one makes the journey more enjoyable than any of its alternatives. By reaching this point, you could have finished 29 miles. It has two short off-road sections that avoid the busy roads. This route is more recommended for bikers with thin tyres.

At the B2028, which is a busy road, this is an unpaved lane for 500 yards. It has a firm but uneven potholed surface. Then as you go, the surface hardens and as you pass by the fishing lake, the route becomes more worthwhile.

Saint Hill

This route achieves 33 miles with beautiful country churches which are one of the pleasures of touring in the English countryside. This route has too many cars that are not too liking for riders. But soon the traffic recedes and lanes become quite once more.

Horsted Keynes

Here now you would have managed 40 miles and you encounter an alternative route through Broadwood Manor a short way to the east. This also helps you avoid busy Haywards Heath a few miles on. The narrow Slugwash Lane meanders quietly towards Wivelsfield.

Streat

There are a few more miles here for you if you are not in a hurry and if you are enjoying the rural environment. At 49 miles now, you are not that far from your destination. At the small village if Streat, visit the 11th century church, and then nip round the back on the gravel track to find Suzy’s Streat Food. Here you will find glorious home-cooked care here, perfect for refueling you before you proceed with the big climb.

Ditchling Beacon

With 53 miles done now, you are almost coming to the end of your journey. Here there is an Underhill Lane road that runs beneath the escarpment, first a moderately busy B road, then a pleasant narrow back street. It gives you an encounter of a climb of 140 miles over 1 mile. This requires muscles to accomplish it.

Ditchling Road

You are now at 56 miles and only 4 miles remaining to the end. Cross the busy A27 road to continue along Ditchling Road into Brighton.

Brighton Pier

Finally you have crossed the 60 miles mark. A slight complex maze of cycle paths provide a safe route past Victoria Gardens and the pavilion.
